Petite Adornments: A Charming Secret to Decorate Your Service Tray!

This Coalport napkin ring was a gift to me from my dear mother-in-law. He continues to jump over some boxwood and a few faux berries on my Christmas platters, and also at Derby Day celebrations!

Christmas is almost here! I invite you to look at your silver chest with fresh eyes. Beyond their traditional role, a silver napkin ring (or any kind of decorative napkin ring) can be reimagined as an exquisite “petite adornment” that adds a sense of beauty and whimsy to your serving trays. This is applicable for any occasion you are hosting.

By transforming a single napkin ring into a Lilliputian-sized arrangement, you can elevate a simple tray into a darling display in mere seconds! Using a napkin ring as aminiature floral holder is an effortless way to add a “uniquely charming touch” to your presentation.

Mummy only used her silver napkin rings for our family or her house guests, but never for a dinner party. She adhered to the old-school rule that using a napkin ring for a dinner guest would indicate that the napkins would be reused! Those words have stayed with me, as I only use my silver napkin rings around a napkin at the dinner table for family members or house guests too OR as a decorative adornment for a serving tray.

I started collecting “polished pewter” napkin rings (no polishing required!) for the birth of each grandchild with their name and birth date engraved on it. They simply love to place them where they wish to be seated at the table!

When visiting my daughter, Alexandra, in England, I plucked some pretty pink heather from her garden and placed it inside her daughter’s napkin ring. The color works brilliantly to adorn the pink Herend Chinese Bouquet platter!

GrandMillenial Tips:

Choose a napkin ring that complements your tray and secure it on the surface with a touch of removable poster putty.

These little arrangements aren’t just for the dining room. A silver napkin ring with a single sprig of lavender or a rosebud is a darling addition to a vanity or a guest powder room, too.

Because they are so versatile, silver napkin rings make exceptional christening or baby gifts. They are a practical heirloom that parents can use as a tray adornment immediately, and the child can treasure for a lifetime.

Slip a few sprigs of holly, seasonal pine, or delicate blossoms through the ring. The ring acts as a weighted base and adds a personalized touch that is unexpected and adored.

These tiny bundles add a pop of color without taking up the space of a full vase, and unlike a vase, no water is spilled when the tray is passed!  Most flower blossoms from your garden can last a few hours without wilting.

Take a peek at how my granddaughter, Felicity, and I are embellishing some trays for a Black tie, “Holly-Jolly” party here!

My heartfelt wishes to you, dear ones, for a most joyous holiday with family and friends.

Xx
