Pearls are “The Queen of Gems” in my opinion! Ever since my darling daddy returned from a business trip to Japan and gifted me my first string of graduated Mikimoto pearls at age twelve, they have been my signature piece of jewelry. I simply cannot leave home without them!
Pearls are timeless, elegant, and surprisingly versatile. A simple strand effortlessly complements any occasion, whether horseback riding, flying a helicopter, attending a Garden Club meeting, or choosing a more extravagant multi-strand of pearls for a formal gala.
The “Hidden” Treasures in Your Jewelry Box:
Do you have a collection of beautiful pins or brooches that simply sit in your jewelry box, waiting for the right occasion? I have a lovely idea for you to incorporate them into your wardrobe for a rawwwther smart look!
By combining your pearls with your pins, you create a striking “new” piece of jewelry that will enhance your outfit in a most stunning and unique way, as seen HERE.
The Two-Ring Technique:
While you can certainly pin a brooch directly over a strand of pearls, it often doesn’t lie flat against your neck, which is why I recommend the “Two-Ring Technique.”
Visit Your Jeweler: Take a strand of pearls to a jeweler to be re-strung.
Add the Rings: Ask the jeweler to remove the traditional clasp and attach two small, discreet rings to both ends of the strand.
Attach the Pin: Now, you can simply “feed the pin” through these two rings. Voila, a new necklace!! (See first photo, above? I added a flower pin to my pearls.)

Pin Inspiration:
The beauty of this technique is how easily you can change and enhance your dress attire to complement the occasion!
A Horse Pin: Perfect for a Derby party or a polo match.
A Flower Pin: Lovely for a floral dress, Easter, or a garden party.
A Heart Pin: Engagement and Wedding receptions, and of course, Valentine’s Day.
A Pearl Pin: Adds an elegant touch to your favorite strand of pearls.
I hope I have inspired you to pull out your pearls and pins! It is such a joy to breathe new life into classic pieces. Please let me know if you try this. I would love to hear that you are wearing your pearls in a resplendent, creative new way!
Xx,
Holly
